So this is Christmas...

Merry Christmas, everybody! I hope you all have had a great day so far (it's 9:30 a.m. here)! The kids are up and playing with their toys. I just finished cutting up the ham that's been cooking overnight. We'll soon start getting cleaned-up to welcome our parents and grandparents in for diner. Life is sweet this morning! The girls (especially Mackenzie) was thrilled to see Butterscotch the horse standing in front of our tree this morning. She must have been especially good for Santa to bring such a great gift! ;) And while all of these wonderful things are occuring right before my eyes, I can't help but think of those who aren't as fortunate this morning. I guess it must come with age; but it takes Christmas to a bittersweet level for me. Let us all take time to remember the birth of our Savior this morning, and to count our blessings in life. Merry Christmas folks.

Finally! Good pics of MY kids!

Picture day at the Byrd House is as challenging as convincing my kids that the dentist is their friend! Why is that? Here I am, a professional photographer; and my own kids are my biggest challenge. Well it turns out, that a lot or pro's will tell you the same thing about their kids. Anyhow, we had a great showing for our efforts yesterday in South Pittsburg. Mackenzie was ready to model (though her suspected ADD made it hard to keep her mind on things) - but Makayla informed me from the time she woke up yesterday morning that she didn't want to get her picture made! Oh well, we managed to get some good ones of her anyhow! So, here are a few; and you can view all 87 images on my website by going to the proofing section and entering the password byrd2.

Breakfast With Santa

Today I spent the morning with Santa Clause at the New Hope High School, where for the second year in a row, I have had the pleasure of photographing children at the annual "Breakfast With Santa", sponsored by the Lady Indians Softball Team. We didn't see as big of a turnout this year; but I did recognize several of the kids that I photographed last year at the same event. Kellie brought our two girls up to see if we could get their picture with Santa... but just as I thought, my two year old couldn't take it - ha, ha! I loved this picture, not so much because of Makayla; but because of the look on Mackenzie's face! And just as I was hoping she would calm down a little, bad turned to worse and she just couldn't take it any more! Oh well, maybe next year!

You've Come a Long Way, Baby!

Miss Alaynah is one year old! She's my third Baby Steps baby to graduate the program! Alaynah always has the prettiest BLUE, BLUE eyes! Here's a few from the session today, which - by the way - happens to have been held in our new studio! No, it's no 100% finished yet; but it's coming along still!

Meet Hayden

Little Ms. Hayden is five days old today! I had a great time meeting her and her mommy and daddy, Wendy & Mike! This family lives in a beautiful cabin near South Pittsburg, TN - so I wasn't too far from home today. Hayden did a great job and was a dream to photograph! Here are a few of her sample photos from today's session!

Meet Jake!

Today, I found myself in McDonald, Tennessee (near Cleveland), where I had the extreme pleasure of meeting little Mr. Jake, one of my brand new Baby Steps enrollees! Jake is about two weeks old and was an angel throughout our session! It was also great meeting Jake's mommy and daddy, Lisa & Bob. Here's a quick preview of what's to come!

Happy Halloween!

I hope everybody had a good time trick-or-treating last night! I know we made out with quite a large bounty! Here's a couple of snapshots of the girls before we left. I think next year, we'll have a Halloween Mini-Session to get pics of the kids in their Halloween costumes!

What a Weekend...

Where do I even start? Friday, the man who laid my hardwood floor was supposed to come back and fix some trouble spots. Instead, he came back, got mad at me, and quit. But fortunately, I had some good friends who came and helped me out of the bind! Saturday, we worked like dogs out the studio, and during the day, I get a call that my Paw-Paw was being taken to the hosptial by ambulance because they thought he was having a heart attack! Sunday, I went to Toney, Alabama, to the funeral of a dear sweet friend who was 36 years old and died of cancer, then to a newborn session in New Market, AL, then to visit my Paw-Paw in the hopsital at H'ville (who did not have a heart attack, though they still cannot find what's causing his chest pains), and then to my in-laws' for my father-in-law's birthday supper. Whew... what a world wind. ALSO - WE ARE CHANGING THE DATE OF THE CHRISTMAS MINI-SESSIONS TO SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10; AND YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO SIGN UP!!! Here are a few samples from my session on Saturday. Meet little Gracie. She was such a sweet little ole thing, though she didn't like being naked too much! I think she was just over a week old on Saturday. I'm looking forward to watching her grow over the next year!

Sawyer is now four months old, and boy is he growing like a weed! The last time I saw him, he was less than a week old; and let me tell you - this boy must be puttin' the food away because he has gone from itty bitty to a little ole chunk! I had a great time photographing Sawyer and seeing his mom and dad again! Here are a couple of shots from the day...

Congrats, Ryan & Katie!

Ryan Gass & Katie Marion were joined in Holy Matrimony last night at the Big Sandy Golf Course in Trenton, Georgia. What a busy day shuffling around the greens; but that was made all the easier by the golf carts loaned to us by the staff at Big Sandy! We really appreciate that! And I was also DEEPLY honored to have my good friend Christy Key doing my second shooting for the service! Folks - all day coverage is great for you; but it's AWESOME for me because I get to have a second photographer on scene! Anyhow, here are some sneek peeks of what I captured last night! Katie/Ryan - thank you both SO much; and I'll be in touch soon!

Cades Cove

I just got in from Cades Cove! It was beautiful; but a little warmer than the weather we normally enjoy there. Kellie and the girls are still there; but I had to come home early for a wedding that I am photographing tomorrow. We enjoyed meeting up with our friends, Shannon & Stacey, and their kiddos, Shyanne & Steele! We got some great shots and even had some unexpected guests during our photoshoot, including the big boy in this last shot and two more about like him! I've been camping in Cades Cove for probably 15 years or longer; and I've seen numerous black bear in the park. But I'm not sure that I've ever seen one any bigger than this guy! We kept our distance, watched him for a little while, and then just went out our photoshoot. It was a lot of fun; and VERY exciting!

A Beautiful Day...

Wow! What a beautiful day it was yesterday! I spent the better part of the day working in the studio. Most of the painting is done; and yesterday, we were working on hanging trim and stuff like that. Then, yesterday evening, Kellie and I took off to Bridgeport, Alabama, where we photographed the family of a former co-worker of mine. The location was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It was back in Doran's Cove and seemingly as beautiful as anything in Cades Cove! I had the pleasure of seeing my friend, Misty, and meeting her family - husband, Justin, and son, Walker. We had a blast doing this shoot! Here are a few samples...
